The School of Arts, Letters, Arts and Humanities integrates two research centres: the Centre for Humanistic Studies of the University of Minho (CEHUM), which promotes research in the areas of Literature, Linguistics, Culture, Philosophy and Arts (Music and Theatre), and the Centre for Ethics, Politics and Society (CEPS), specialized in the fields of Political Theory and Applied Ethics.
The research centres materialize the central mission of the University: to research in an internationalised context of scientific production and, in close articulation with teaching, generating, disseminating and applying knowledge. Freedom of thought and the plurality of critical exercises are universal principles underlying our research, which is aimed at contributing to society based on humanistic values, and draws on knowledge, creativity and innovation as factors of growth, sustainable development, well-being and solidarity.
