Description


The Doctorate in Literature Sciences has the following objectives:
- to promote advanced knowledge (theoretical or applied) in the study of Literature;
- to foster the development of research skills;
- to promote the realization of autonomous and original work in the domain of the Literary Studies;
- to promote the realization of innovative work in the domain of Literary Studies;
- to foster the broadening of current knowledge in the Literary Studies to other fields within or outside the humanities;
- to train individuals capable of intervening in professional activities in the various fields of application of literary studies:
> content production for public and private institutions, cultural industries, and companies in the cultural sector;
> editorial supervision;
> definition of cultural policies in multilingual contexts;
> literary translation;
> teaching literary and artistic cultures.

Key learning outcomes


At the end of the study cycle, candidates for a doctoral degree are expected to demonstrate:
1. Mastery of terminology and analysis tools necessary for an adequate description of linguistic-textual phenomena in literary communication;
2. Ability to systematically understand the Sciences of Literature in its different subdomains;
3. Ability to conceive, design, adapt and carry out scientifically competent research, respecting the requirements imposed by academic quality and integrity standards;
4. Having carried out a significant number of original research works that have contributed to the expansion of the frontiers of knowledge, deserving national and/or international dissemination in publications with scientific review;
5. Proficiency in communicating their conclusions, knowledge and their underlying reasoning, in a clear and unambiguous manner;
6. Ability to promote, in an academic and/or professional context, technological, social and/or cultural progress.

Access to higher education


The conclusion of this doctorate allows the carrying out of research activity at the post-doctoral level.

Careers


Doctorates in Sciences of Literature can intervene in professional activities in the various fields and spaces of application of literary studies, namely:
- cultural and creative industries, tourism and companies (public and private) in the cultural sector;
- libraries, museums and documentation centers;
- editorial activity;
- criticism and cultural animation;
- literary translation;
- teaching of artistic and literary literatures and cultures, including in higher education institutions.

Formal requirements


The following are specific conditions for admission to the Course, as proposed in the Follow-up Report presented following the last accreditation of this cycle of studies:
a) Holders of Master's Degrees in the field of Literature Sciences.
b) Holders of other Master's degrees, provided they have in their curriculum the equivalent of 30 ECTS in a scientific area of Literature Sciences.
c) Holders of a duly recognized foreign higher education degree in Literary Sciences, or who have in their curriculum the equivalent of 30 ECTS in a scientific area of Literary Sciences.
d) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognized by the Scientific Council of the School of Arts and Humanities as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies.
