Created in 2006, the Orchestra of The University of Minho (OUM) integrates,
in its various configurations, the teachers and students of the Department of
Music, as well as the orchestra's instrumentalists, soloists, and guest
conductors who represent the creativity, arts and culture that is rooted in the
field of scientific-pedagogical training and reflect this to the community.
With a regular activity of approximately 15 concerts per year, the
symphonies and choral-symphonies like the Requiem of Mozart, Requiem of Fauré,
the Carmina Burana of Carl Orff, Symphony nr 1 of Brahms, and the Symphonies nr
5, 6, 7 and 9 of Beethoven, as well as concerts for soloist instruments and the
orchestra of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Weber, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Brahms
stand out from their repertoire. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of The University of Minho, the OUM performed the UMinho's symphony - specially composed for the celebration - under the direction of its composer, António Vitorino de Almeida.
This Orchestra is supported by Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
