Description


- To promote advanced knowledge (theoretical or applied) in Culture Studies;
- To foster the development of research skills in the domain of the humanities;
- To promote the undertaking of original, independent work leading to innovative projects in the domain of Culture Studies;
- To extend the scope of current knowledge in Culture Studies to other fields inside or outside the humanities;
- To train individuals capable of engaging in professional activities in applied domains of Culture Studies.

Key learning outcomes


1. To master the terminology and analytical instruments necessary for an adequate description of the cultural and intercultural phenomena studied;
2. To comment critically on the pertinent literature;
3. To undertake a significant and original research project of quality and academic integrity;
4. To produce a significant amount of original research work, part of which being worthy of national or international peer-reviewed publication;
5. To communicate research conclusions, acquired knowledge and rationale in a clear and effective manner;
6. To promote culture in an academic and/or professional context;
7. To value the previous work produced in the domain of cultural studies;
8. To show autonomy and ethical conduct inside and outside of academia.

Access to higher education


The conclusion of this PhD study cycle permits subsequent post-doctorate research activity.

Careers


The course of Cultural Sciences gives the holders access to professions such as curators and performance art programmers, managers of cultural goods and services; promotors of cultural projects in cultural tourism and Musicology; consultants in public and/or private projects in the area of culture (in municipal councils, museums, etc.); teaching (3rd cycle) in the area of culture including as artists-researchers.

Formal requirements


1. Holders of a Master’s degree in the area of Cultures or similar areas.
2. Holders of a Master’s degree or legal equivalent providing they have the equivalent of 20 ECTS in a scientific area of Culture Studies.
3. Holders of a foreign HE degree in the area of Cultures or similar areas, recognised by the Scientific Council of ELACH as adequate, or who have a curriculum containing the equivalent of 20 ECTS in the scientific area of Culture Studies.
4. Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum in the area of Culture, Literatures and / or similar areas, which is recognized by the Scientific Council of ELACH as showing the necessary capacity for completing this study cycle.
